Natjo's Basic simple hair shader (for Blender Cycles and Eevee)

NZ$0+

Don't open the node group, it's a bit of a mess.

Contains 4 shaders:
1. The main hair shader I worked on.
2. A optimised version of the main hair shader which cuts out the transparency.
3. A version of the hair shader but I gave it subsurface. Doesn't look amazing in EEVEE due to how light works with hair particles, but in cycles it simulates hair a bit better. This one probably needs a bit of work which I'll get to at some other point.
4. A modified version of Blender Guru's fur shader (https://youtu.be/EVj1fETtuN8) with my shader implimented in place of the default Blender hair BSDF. Looks a tad brighter but works well and even works with Eevee.

I'll be honest, I'm pretty terrible at organising shaders in Blender, so sorry for the absolute mess.

Example renders (Cycles rendered at 512 with SID denoiser (https://kevinlorengel.gumroad.com/l/SuperImageDenoiser), and EEVEE at 1024 samples)

Main shader:

Optimised:

Subsurf:

Guru modified:

I genuinely don't know why Cycles renders out blond hair as ginger, or the background for the Guru Cycles render more redish. I'll update this maybe with fixes to Subsurf, or maybe more outputs. Not going to lie, I don't know if this is the most optimised way of making a shader, but it works for me, folk on sheep it and my weak laptop.

Version of the Blend file doesn't have the fur motion baked. Don't want you guys to be bogged down with 120mbs of baked physics data, but if you want you can rebake it.

Next I might go do a cell shading shader... see if I can get one of those working in Cycles and not just Eevee for once.

Please give credit where it's due, me for the shader, Blender Guru for, yknow, the basis of the fur shader if you use it.

I want this!

Blender file containing material for hair with different varients for ease of use

Main output:
Default shader
Optimized output:
Default shader but with alpha removed (about a third faster?)
Subsurf output:
Default Shader but subsurface scattering has been awkwardly shoved into it (And is somehow faster, so I assume this is broken)
Guru Output:
Blender Guru's furshader (from Blender 2.77) modified to not be using Blender's Hair BSDF but instead my Default
Size
4.95 MB
